The work we have had to carry out is about the creation of a new board game, the central theme of which was to be climate change: a worldwide problem ignored by many, although it is very real. It is for this reason that we wanted to create a game that would be fun while raising awareness and educating players about climate change.
Regarding the mechanics, the objective of the players or groups will be to make the balance tip to their side. This will be achieved through the realization of different tests (8 types), which must be overcome. The test to be performed by each player/group will be described by cards that are separated by difficulty (easy, medium, and difficult) and by players (1 vs 1 or group vs group). The difficulty of the card will be the result of the challenge since it will be known according to the result of a dice. When a player/group successfully passes one of these cards or tests, he/she will be able to place a piece on the corresponding part of the scale (these pieces are different depending on the difficulty of the card played).
Description of the brief:
- Project: Our project deals with the creation of a new table game. This project will be a complex model of a possible marketable table game.
- Product: The product that we will create will be a board game (with its respective instructions, materials, advertising…) that will be composed of a central scale with two boxes, where -if one of the card tests is passed satisfactorily- fishes of different sizes will be placed according to the difficulty of the test carried out. The objective of the game will be to tip the balance to the side that suits the player/group.
- Objective: The objective of the project that we will create will be to entertain our public (a function that almost all table games perform) but, unlike others, we also want to raise awareness and educate about climate change in a creative and fun way.
- Target: Our target is from 7 years old up to any age, because everyone has to be aware of the phenomenon of climate change. It is intended for any kind of public, but ideally it will be created to play with groups such as families, friends…
4.1. Target audience: Our initial target audience will be, on the one hand, people of all ages who are fond of table games and are eager to try a new game. On the other hand, we would also find in this section people who are minimally interested in climate change or who would like to know more about this phenomenon.
4.2. Potential audience: Our potential audience would be all those interested or fond of board games in general or who play them sporadically. We would also like to reach people who are not totally interested in climate change but who find the game’s mechanics fun enough to try it. We would reach this potential audience through the different advertising campaigns we would carry out. - Key messages: We all have to be aware of the problem of climate change. It is very important to become culturally aware of the different facts behind this problem, to change habits as individuals and, consequently, for society as a whole to find solutions and take minimally significant actions to try to rectify in some way all that we have been doing wrong for so many years.
- Style and to: The style of our table game will be above all educational, with a certain amusing touch. In short, it will be a cheerful and dynamic but at the same time educational and fair game.
- Distribution channels: Our game intends to be distributed through stores related both to entertainment and education (cultural distribution stores such as Abacus, different bookstores…). Another type of store where it could be sold would be in ecological or proximity stores (for example, food stores).
In addition, another type of distribution channel would have to be online sales, due to the convenience it offers to users. - Budget: The budget would be around €20 per game.
- Advertising channels: In an initial moment, to advertise the game we would make on the one hand an advertising poster that arouses interest. On the other hand, we would carry out a campaign related to social networks to be able to reach a large audience.
